According to the insurance bureau of Canada, fire or theft is no longer the leading cause of loss in Canada.  Water has taken those honours, and the Canadian Insurance industry pays approximately $1.5 Billion dollars in water related claims per year.  The increased frequency of weather related storms, ageing infrastructure and changes in home designs all contribute to the problem.
