The Great Shake Out

Say What?

the Geological Survey of Canada (GSC) records and locates over 4000 earthquakes in Canada each yearThat is about 11 per day! Of these 4000, only about 50 (1/week) are generally felt. Crazy right?!?

I started following the Quakes Today Earthquake Alerts on Twitter and I’m not going to lie… it’s freaking me out a little. They report even the smallest quakes but – OH MY – there’s a lot of them.  Nothing like a daily reminder of a potential unavoidable peril 🙁

Now I like to think of myself as “the cups half full type”, so I figure a little refresher in preparedness is in order – you know – just in case the big one hits. The only real defense in protecting against a natural disaster is being prepared.

I also like to think of myself diligent (others may use the word overzealous – tomayto, tomahto), so I signed up all our offices to participate in the Great Shake Out this October 16, 10:16 am. and I encourage you to do the same. It’s a 60 second drill to highlight Earthquake preparedness.

During a water cooler chat, I inadvertently discovered several of us have opposing ideas of what to do in the event of an earthquake.  All the more reason for a little trial run. Are you on track with the safest actions at work and home? Lucky for you, I’ve got all the information you need to participate right here! Shake Shake Shake my friends.
